Synopsis:

The capital has fallen.

The Darkling rules Ravka from his shadow throne.

Now the nation’s fate rests with a broken Sun Summoner, a disgraced tracker, and the shattered remnants of a once-great magical army.

Deep in an ancient network of tunnels and caverns, a weakened Alina must submit to the dubious protection of the Apparat and the zealots who worship her as a Saint. Yet her plans lie elsewhere, with the hunt for the elusive firebird and the hope that an outlaw prince still survives.

Alina will have to forge new alliances and put aside old rivalries as she and Mal race to find the last of Morozova’s amplifiers. But as she begins to unravel the Darkling’s secrets, she reveals a past that will forever alter her understanding of the bond they share and the power she wields. The firebird is the one thing that stands between Ravka and destruction—and claiming it could cost Alina the very future she’s fighting for.

Review:

I’m mad at every single one of you who has read this book. I got zero warning.  ZERO. WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME? I feel betrayed. Utterly betrayed. I’m unhappy with life right now because of this book. Yes, I loved this book. Just not the BS that happened in it!!!!

The Darkling is just as amazing as ever. If you don’t know, my rant above is about The Darkling. I’m not happy about this. I’m so glad we got a little more of him in this book. I really just wish we got his perspective. I need more of The Darkling. My baby.

I actually liked Mal in this one. As much as I love The Darkling, I feel like Mal finally deserves Alina. I feel like he grew so much as a character. I just kind of feel like he secretly was terrified of Alina or just hated her power. But in this book, he comes to term with what she is and what she has to do. He stopped being a baby about it.

What was that fight scene? This is the main reason this book didn’t get five stars. It literally lasted like three pages. I was very disappointed with this. I was expecting some amazing fight scene and a crap ton of people dying. (I was expecting a not-so-happy ending with this series even though it would have been happy for me because The Darkling)

Nickolai was amazing as always. Reading these books has made me so excited to get to King Of Scars. He’s so fun. I can’t wait to read an entire book about him.

I feel like this would have been my favorite in the series. It just had a terrible fight scene at the end I feel a little bit cheated. It’s okay though. I still really enjoyed my time reading this series and I’m sad it’s over.

4/5 Stars
